laura -- very valid point. i'll be checking out more local music in the upcoming months. a friend of mine has been encouraging me to check out cyanide valentine (for one) for the past few months and i just haven't gotten around to it. B -- interesting list (can't say i'd put opeth in a top 10, but . . .) we certainly agree about MF DOOM.

alexandra, i see 4 individual lists... and not a single local cd. if you're writing a boston-based blog, it'd be nice if y'all would bother showing an interest in the local scene. mittens, ad frank, tiger saw, aberdeen city, taxpayer, apollo sunshine and cyanide valentine all had good albums this year. better than jamiroquai, i promise.

could this list be any more lame. fuck. want a list peep: dead meadow- feathers opeth- ghost reveries jesu- s/t jandek- glasgow sunday ichabod- reaching empyrean bohren & der club of gore- geisterfaust sunn o)))- the black one nile- anihilation of the wicked ryan adams- cold roses/jacksonville city nights/29 overmars- affliction, endoctrine...virtigo get a clue. lame wads. theres other music out there being made by people who don't wear tight pants. have cheesy emo hair or have 19 member bands or who don't whine into a mic while hacking away at an acoustic guitar, but i will say this: MF doom has skills.

violet and laura - for my picks i just organized my itunes list by the number of times tracks were played ... and grabbed the albums... as far as local CDs there are a quite a few in my collection but they aren't in my top 10...

very nice list. it's nice to see that boston has an appreciation for good music. spoon should have been much higher though, they played for free!

Our criteria for the list was the US release date. Several of our picks (Annie, Dungen, Kasabian) were '04 releases in their home countries, but '05 releases here.
