Declare War. Call a Truce. Settle for Detente?

Just as Bostonist was readying our report on an ongoing blog struggle, we saw that the second and third rounds had already been decided and the fight seemed to have ended in a draw (thanks to up-to-the-minute "it's like he's embedded" coverage of a local blogwar from Adam at Universal Hub): A traditional Bostonist-hater went head to head with one of Boston's newer commentators (a new-kid of the School of Bostonist Trash Talking) in what was a much less heated exchange than we've seen elsewhere. News that our parents in NYC were finally pulling in enough ad revenue to pay for the servers and Moveable Type license and that they had actually started paying core contributors was met with mixed reactions. Some said, "Bastards, you
don't pay your people." Others said, "Wow, they cut me a check for that drivel?!" A new network of weblogs was firmly in the "Bastards" camp, started calling our publisher names, and a rumor free-for-all ensued. Bostonist didn't step into the battle because we really didn't have anything good to say. As Universal Hub notes, Blog Media, Inc., pulled the part where they called Gothamist management a bunch of whip-cracking slave-drivers, and we even noticed that an apology of sorts had been issued.

For what it's worth, Bostonist didn't get into this whole blogging thing for the money. We'll admit our stupidity, but we're not that stupid (thinking there was money to be had would, indeed, be wicked stupid). Our only true reward thus far has been getting that one email forward from a friend:

"you know the guy who does bostonist? that's awesome. nathan loves that site!"

It's the fame and adoration of people like Nathan we're going for. Bostonist is in this game for the fun of it, not the money. If you, dear reader, would like in on our fun game too, just drop us a line. We're always looking for good contributors.
