. . . yeah, we know. It's so exciting, you can hardly wait to find out more . . .
Bostonist tries to keep you, beloved reader, up to date on matters political here in the Commonwealth, so it is surely incumbent upon us to note that our dear, departing Governor gave his State of the State address last night (but note that where the Globe says Romney's budget proposal will be worth $24 million, they mean billion). (Bostonist would like to know why it's not the State of the Commonwealth, but whatever.) The problem is, the speech wasn't all that interesting, and seemed to Bostonist to cement Romney's ever-growing irrelevance. The Globe's story (link above) picks apart some of Romney's claims on job growth (i.e., we still have fewer stable jobs in the Commonwealth than when he took office), the good folks over at Blue Mass. Group pick apart the rest of the speech (graciously and even-handedly, we think), and leading Dems in the legislature have offered the perfunctory, lukewarm responses that are de rigueur at such times. Notwithstanding the fact that we rarely miss a chance to poke fun at Mitt, Bostonist simply has nothing to add, except that we eagerly look forward to seeing the product of the video editing currently underway at Romney's campaign headquarters: Expect to hear snippets of last night's speech again in a campaign commercial down the line, carefully rehashed into moving paeans to patriotism, education, and "family values," set to inspiring music, and paired with a manly voice-over (hopefully, they'll get that "in-a-world" guy who does all the previews for artsy foreign movies).
We tried it once before, we liked it, and we're sticking with it: Pictures of a Romney sheep are much better than pictures of the actual governor.
