Earlier this week, Bostonist was busy using up some Best Buy gift cards at the Cambridgeside Galleria. There was a noticeable lack of activity on a Tuesday evening, just after dinnertime. Wandering through the empty rows of stores we wondered what might be the fate of the large Filene’s that occupies the space – will Cambridgeside see the transition to Macy’s, Bloomies? We thought for a second on the question and then just went to go check out the new 1GB iPod nano in the Apple Store downstairs.
Lots of people express the desire from time to time if Boston were to get an Apple store. It’s easier to get to Cambrideside now that the trolley runs all the way out to Lechemere again (no shuttle bus for us!). A flashy store that wouldn’t require Bostonist to go to the mall to grab a new set of earbuds seems like a common enough request. Dreams, wishes, and desires of Macophiles around the Hub looks to soon be answered. A couple of websites have reported that a new Apple Store will be setting up shop on Boylston St. across from the Pru. Copy Cop’s days are numbered at 815 Boylston St. as the building will be demolished to make room for a four story Apple Store. Rumors have it that the store will be all glass and one of the most state of the art to date, no surprise as things from apple keep getting bigger and better. Or is it smaller and better? Mayor Meninio should be coming out with a statement to make it all official later this week. Bostonist hopes that Meninio or Jobs will let us know soon when the store will open. It'll give us a good target date so we can start saving our quarters and perhaps when opening day rolls around we'll be able to afford the new "ulta nano" that plays FM radio so we won't have to miss All Things Considered anymore.

Thanks to Apple gossip watcher Johnny for the tip on the rumors.

This is such great news for us Apple users...not such great news for my credit card balance, but I'm excited for a non-mall location!
yes, finally, an apple store IN THE CITY! no more crowded shoulder-to-shoulder shopping in cambridgeside!
I have to admit, there was something inside me that wanted to make a "big apple" joke...but I refrain.
