Yeah, the NKOTB plaque went the way of Tower... Interestingly, something not mentioned in the post was the statement in the Globe article that family members of the honoree's were sometimes territorial, keeping their stars' stars clean, getting upset when they were dirty. I hear Yo-Yo Ma sleeps with his Tower records star now.

I haven't been to the Virgin Megastore on the corner of Mass Ave & Newbury St, but Tower Records used to have a small sidewalk of fame there, where the names of local recording artists who made the big time were featured. Your mention of NKOTB reminded me of that, because I believe their name (collectively not individually) was in one of the stars.
