At lunch today, this Bostonist found herself with a veritable hot Man-wich, that is, sandwiched between three attractive young professional males (two front/one behind) in the deli line. This caused us to wonder: is the Leather District really "the next Soho" of Boston?
Bostonist has noticed at least three major condo developments going up within as many blocks of our place of employment — in fact, Lincoln Plaza, directly across the street, is already 80% sold. Top floor units, with their splendid view of Chinatown, the highway and current construction work on the Rose Kennedy Greenway (we're being sarcastic,) are going for $1 million+, so we wouldn't exactly call the neighborhood "a gem in the rough."
Still, with close proximity to downtown, the T at South Station, and possible curb appeal as more businesses move in and the Greenway is completed...the Romanesque buildings that once held men cobbling together shoes could become the next clusterfuck of urban condo existence.
Until that happens, or there are more lunch options than one deli, one sandwich shop, and two restaurants (with one owner,) we'll keep making the S&M puns — and eyeing the lunch line hot dishes.
