Resident Bostonian Rebecca Gordon's Second Gallery is something new and exciting to the Boston art scene. Housed in Southie's artist community/workspace epicenter The Distillery, Second Gallery is sure to be the contemporary arts space in the city that it strives to be - going beyond the aims of many galleries driven primarily by profit margins and consumer demand - Second Gallery sets itself up as a space that "engages new approaches to subject matter and media ..... underrepresented in commercial galleries...."
In an era driven by the commercialization of the artist and increasing attention to a business focused model rather than the display of inspirational and challenging art, Second Gallery is making a triumphant stand to re-focus Boston's arts community on the work itself and its message to those paying attention.
Having just taken down the first installation this week, your next chance to check out what the gallery has to offer is at the opening of two new installations on Saturday, March 25 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m, (which gives you time to drop by the opening and then make your way over to Bostonist's First Birthday Party at the Kinsale.) Featured in this installation are artists: Goody-B. Wiseman (top half of banner image) and Alexandre Singh (lower half of banner image).
To learn much more about the artists, read the press release, in which Rebecca does a much better job at introducing the artists and the works in the context of both careers than Bostonist could ever attempt to do. In addition, be sure to check out the website for information on the inaugural show "We Made It" and plans for the future.
Also be sure to check out previously featured spaces: Caleb Neelon-curated "SPOTHUNTERS" at the New Art Center in Newton until April 7 and be on the look out for news about Judd Katz's Installations@EMF in Central Square.
