AutoCAD-ic for the People

Bostonist hasn’t lost sight of the spire in the sky Menino proposed a month ago. Yesterday’s globe paid special attention to the fact that even though a new tower might be seen by some as an enhancement, an architectural point of interest, for the world-class Boston skyline some folks won't be able to see it. Views around the city have been blocked by new construction, leaving only brick walls and little sunshine through the windows. Today’s video is actually more of an animation. You’ll see a building rise from the ground up, a couple different flyovers, and a study, literally, of how the building will cast a shadow on the city. The plot seems close to where Menino would want to put the new ‘scraper, but it is certainly not as tall as the proposed high-rise would be. AutoCAD nerds take note: apparently this was made using AutoCAD 2007, which is set to ship on March 28.

Ed. Note: The video's got a soundtrack provided by R.E.M., hence our cheesy headline for the post.
