A sly mention earlier this week of the wonders of Creative Commons licensing in a post about the Free Culture movement might have been a clue. Perhaps the repeated italicized credits for photos from Flickr users at the bottom of other posts were the tip off. Either way it is clear to us that Flickr is a great Web 2.0 application and a wonderful resource for us poor bloggers looking for great imagery without access (well, money to cough up for the huge fee) to the AP photo wire. Not only do we integrate Flickr photos into our posts with appropriately licensed photographs and attribution but we, just the other day, added event photos to our site.
The left column of this page (this is especially for those of you who read this using an RSS aggregator) now features a Flickr Badge. The badge rotates photos that are part of the Exploit Boston group photo pool – and they’re of events in the greater Boston area: concerts, ball games, game nights, etc. Sooz (curator of the Exploit Boston calendar, game night facilitator, and regular internetista) suggested that we slap a badge on the page. We did and we like it. We hope that you’ll contribute to the group by adding them to the Exploit Boston group pool – especially photos from the party tomorrow night. We’re looking to get a Bostonist group pool up and running for broader Boston (not just event-type) photos, so join the group and add your captures.
Photo is another great examply of the wonders of Flickr. A dude on the Red Line under a CC license, thanks for Scott LaPierre or Flickr user: pierre lascott for sharing his views of the Hub with us.
