Perhaps it is the hangover Bostonist still has from too many Scorpion bowls at The Golden Temple this weekend that is causing this malaise…or it could be the gloomy weather that makes us feel sad. But luckily, things are looking up this weekend, kids. The first day of April is this Saturday and along with changing the clocks an hour ahead, it also means that spring is right around the corner. (Some believe that the arrival of the Cadbury Cream Egg is also an indication.) Yes, we understand that the first day of spring was last week, but who the hell thinks it’s springtime when we’re seeing flurries and wearing scarves? Oh wait. There is a group of Bostonians who believe that the first day of spring means that dressing unseasonably is okay in society. Well, Bostonist has to admit that dressing like it’s summertime when it is cold, windy and barely 38 degrees is one of our many pet peeves.
For those not familiar with this fashion style, let’s start with the basics. Take yourself back to any day last week. Do you recall it being warm (above 60 degrees and sunny) at all? Neither does Bostonist, but this didn’t stop the ladies from wearing flip flops and Capri pants, while some chose to wear no coats at all, opting for just a tank top to wonder the Back Bay area. Since when does wearing open toe shoes in 30-degree weather become acceptable? And it wasn’t just the women who were guilty of this. Males of all ages sported shorts and t-shirts as well. Bostonist even witnessed a man running shirtless down Beacon Street today.
Please believe us when we say that we want it to be warm and sunny just like everyone else, but you can’t be serious and say you aren’t freezing in those flops? And as Bostonist’s dad said this afternoon, “All these idiots are going to be sick next week.” Just don’t cough on us while on the T, please.
For those who will ignore our pleas to stop wearing flip flops, here is this week's forecast. You'll probably be sunbathing on the Common this Friday afternoon.
