Bostonist is still recovering from that one-hour loss of sleep due to Daylight’s Savings Time yesterday, so please be kind as we slowly enter into the world of blogging this week. Here’s a round up of the top stories here in the city today…with a couple of highlights in what is turning out to be a gloomy news day.
Breaking News: A crane that was working on an Emerson College building at 136 Boylston Street collapses onto pedestrians and cars below during the lunchtime rush; according to the most recent news, three people have been killed in this freak occurrence.
Violence Ruins Nice Sunday: In other tragic news, five people were shot yesterday afternoon within the hour in Roxbury, including a drive-by shooting injuring two teenagers. Shootings in Boston are up 67% from last year at this time and it's only April.
Sox Head South to Open Season: Although we still have to wait a week until the Fenway home opener, the Red Sox kick off their 2006 season deep in the heart of Texas with Schilling on the mound and a field of new faces.
Carroll Finally Returns Home: After 82 days of being held hostage in Iraq, Christian Science Monitor reporter Jill Carroll is reunited with her family here in Boston.
NCAA Finals Conclude in Boston: Yes, we have all burned our brackets here at Bostonist, but the men’s final game of Florida vs. UCLA tips off tonight at 9:21p.m. (talk about precise). And in case you haven’t noticed, the women’s final four was held last night at the TD Banknorth Garden, with the final game of Duke and Maryland tomorrow night. Let’s hope that hosting the Final Four is more lucrative than when Boston decided to host the Democratic National Convention.

Democratic Primary Debate at WGBH: Transcript Time!

gawd it was such a mess down there... some of my pals had class and saw the whole thing. jeez. glad none of my fellow students were hurt but i feel terrible for the construction workers and driver that died... their poor families. i hope my rich-ass school compensates them at least.
And don't let up on the Duke Hatin'. Go Terps!
