Must See Monday: Two Funny Guys

EugeneBlueeyes_2006.jpgSince our marathon-running friends are in hardcore training mode and refuse to go out, Bostonist has decided to make up for their loss this week. So, we're going to keep this party going and head out tonight to see some very funny guys take the stage. We got an e-mail from Bostonist's comedian friend, Todd Barry, a few weeks ago about him teaming up with fellow funnyman Eugene Mirman at the Middle East. Bostonist first heard about Barry from our big brother Gothamist last year and were able to catch his deadpan delivery of jokes. Todd_barry_2006.jpgWe've been hooked ever since and are excited to see what Barry and Mirman have in store for us at their stop in Boston. Bostonist checked out each comedian's website to get warmed up for the show. Barry has a nice assortment of random receipts from his past, showing his affinity to buy the "Mortgages for Dummies" book with a gift card (irony at its best); Mirman has a hilarious (yet somewhat frightening) feature on his site: "The Marvelous Crooning Child", with a baby photo that sings "Hey Mickey" and "Like a Virgin."

There's also talk of the Walsh Brothers opening up for the guys tonight. Bostonist stumbled across the brothers at a midnight show at the Improv Asylum and now they seem to be popping up everywhere, from the Globe to the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival last month in Aspen.

Show kicks off at 8p.m. (18+) at The Middle East, Cambridge. Tickets are still available at ticketmaster.com and are quite a steal at $12 a pop.

Cool! Todd's brother Ian was my art director partner at a NYC ad agency in the mid-90s. I met Todd at dinner with Ian and his wife one night. Very nice guy.
