Tourfilter: Like a Craigslist for Concerts

tourfilterscreencap2006.jpgWith all the social networking sites out there it’s just so hard. Did we remember to check myspace and friendster for bulletins? Is our Hey Lets Go group up to date? What’s going on on Upcoming.org – is there a hot new group we’re missing? We’re not going to stop checking all those sites, but we’re going to add to our list. Tourfilter.com popped up on the radar early this month and we’re digging on it. The interface is the feel of craigslist with the information we get from upcoming. Everything is wrapped up in one little package that automates things a bit so we can enter in our favorite band’s name and wait for the email to come to us. Perfect.

Tourfilter, like many things on the Internets these days, is a work in progress. It’s not beta because it’s non-commercial. There are no ads, no spam, none of that garbage. Chris, the individual behind the site, is still working out some kinks and making it easier to use. It all started because he kept missing out on concerts he meant to go see. For now the tourfilter relies on a crawler to search the websites of a number of Hub venues, so it's a bit different than upcoming.org in that sense, and the fact that once the backend finds a band you've listed on your "watch list" they'll shoot you an email to make sure you find out about it. We also give them a big gleaming gold star for being based out of Boston. For the time being the site only features venues in Boston but Bostonist has been told that if the site is well received they're ready to expand all over the place in no time.

Update: We got a fact wrong, they don't rely on user submissions. You can track a show, artist, etc...but they'll magically find it for you first.
