Essential Listen: Remnants of the Pixies

There’s a buzz in the Boston Blogosphere: Essential Boston Music. The compilation added to by numerous folks out there is a growing compendium of Boston-based rock music. We’re loading some our less-listened to CDs into our MP3 player and taking ourselves back (and annoying the piss out of some people while singing Voices Carry over and over). An important page in Boston music is, of course, the Pixies. The Pixies might have taken a decade to regroup, meanwhile Frank Black (or Black Francis) was still making music. We recently heard that he’ll be on the IFC’s Henry Rollins show this Saturday night. We haven’t caught the Henry Rollins show yet – it just started up on April 1 and we thought it was a joke. Apparently real, the rocker Rollins is grabbing some heaving hitting film moguls like Werner Herzog and Billy Bob Thorton and musical guests like Jurrasic 5 and Sleater-Kinney in addition to Pixie Frank Black. Show airs at 10 p.m. on Saturday and rebroadcasts on Thursday nights. This week’s show features Black. We’ve been told that after the show airs the website will host the musical performance along with special extended plays that don't make it into the 25-minute episode, so you can browse over and watch it during work your lunch hour.
