The Red Sox are making their way through a series with Tampa Bay before they come back home to take on the Yanks. It is still a long haul until we start getting nervous about every time they lose a game (which they’ve been doing a lot of lately). There have been a few items of Red Sox news this past week that don’t actually relate to baseball:
Big Papi was apparently profiting. He spent his day off early this week at his home in Wisconsin working on an "AT&T Home Turf series" that will eventually allow us all to take a virtual tour of his house. While we are well aware Ortiz had played for the Twins (who home in Minnesota), we didn’t know the "infectious" Ortiz had a house in Wisconsin. Mango salsa con queso anyone?
In completely cheese-less news, the executive director of the Red Sox Foundation has challenged the New York Yankees to an off-the-field challenge: help out the Bristol Community Organization meet its $40,000 goal, since it's currently $10,000 short. Bostonist thinks it's a great idea to use the long-lived rivalry to do some good. As for the Yankees, they "won't comment" right now.
Bostonist wonders who we will be turning to for Red Sox radio action. According to published reports, the team is set to sign with 92.9 WBOS-FM for at least $12 million a year. While the deal isn't sealed, the Herald cites "Executives" in an article last week who say WBOS is the favorite, and that "an agreement could be announced early next week." The early next week has come and gone with nothing yet announced. Bostonist is hopeful, and fairly sure, that our favorite announcers Joe Castiglione and Jerry Trupiano will remain the voices of Red Sox radio.
