(Only) 5K for a Good Cause

If you’re begrudging the workweek that put an end to the beautiful weekend the Bean just basked in, a morning at the beach in Southie seems like a satisfactory way to start the next. All the better to be there for a good cause: a fundraiser for multiple myeloma, a cancer of blood plasma cells that affects more than 50,000 Americans. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation is working to bring this disease to its knees in part by hosting a 5k Walk/Run this Saturday morning, May 13, Mother’s Day weekend (consider yourself reminded) at Carson Beach.

While Boston has as many fundraising opportunities and philanthropic events as any city, this one combines our love for running and health with the emerging summery weather that we feel we earn winter after winter. Sure it has the usual suspects as sponsors: the soft drink giant, your neighborhood pharma/therapeutic company, Chairman View image">">Bob Costas—but 5k really isn’t so tough, especially for fit Bostonians (ranked 10th for 2006 by Men’s Fitness) and your super-fit neighbors, significant other, and co-workers.

To be fair, and relatively complete, this is one of quite a few races in the greater Boston area this weekend.
