Go Ride a Bike

Commuter.jpgBostonist never tires of urging you to ride your bicycle and with the price of gas and the T climbing ever higher, you really ought to take our advice. Sure, the weather outside is frightful these days, but there are plenty of easy solutions to that problem. And to sweeten the deal, next week MassBike, our friendly neighborhood bicycle advocacy organization, has a bunch of events on tap for Bike Week 2006.

The week, which is part of the national Bike Month, has lots of classes about safe biking and bike repair, a number of group rides all over the Commonwealth, and, most importantly, free breakfasts and giveaways for bicycle commuters in different communities every morning. Not surprisingly, Cambridge - that haven of sensible bicycle commuting - has something going on every weekday morning. The fundraiser at Redbones on Monday night also promises to be a good time: $15 gets you a beer, a sandwich, and a raffle ticket for fabulous prizes, and there will be live music by the delightfully named Second Line Social Aid Pleasure Society Brass Band. So get out there and ride, but make sure to wear a helmet and follow the rules of the road.
