The internets were abuzz yesterday with the launch of Flickr: Gamma Edition. They've been living in Beta as the site has been growing exponentially recently. Flickr is owned by Yahoo!, it was purchased in March '05. Since then Yahoo! photos have migrated to Flickr, a bit more storage and a few more features added, and the servers moved from Vancouver to California. But they've yet to roll into Flickr 1.0 as promised, yesterday they took a step in that direction.
Bostonist spent a good part of our browsing hours clicking on contacts, profiles, and photosets getting a good feel for the newly launched features and design. Still simple and easy to use – just a few more drop down menus and organization options. Some things haven’t changed. You can still add your event photos to the Exploit Boston group and they'll show up on the left hand column here on Bostonist. There's also a Bostonist group we've got up and running for anything and everything you'd think the Bostonist pool should be. It's Web 2.0, or something.
After all our poking around in Flickr we stumbled upon familiar faces. Familiar not because we know them in person, not because they are TV stars, or even been in the movies. Oh, wait, maybe they have been in the movies. We spotted the same crew of folks enjoying a night game at Fenway in April (with pretty good seats) in a Flickr set that we'd seen somewhere before – YouTube. That's why the picture above is relevant to today's video post – and why the video post is really all about Flickr.
Flickr user: mil8 brings us the picture - and YouTube user: mil8 brings us the video. Thanks Marc!
