We know Ben Affleck is back in town shooting a movie in Southie, but it's hard to think of him as one of our own anymore. He and Jennifer are trying their best to burn down Cambridge rather than make good in South Boston or even with his mom (we've heard she lives in Back Bay these days). We're much more interested in Townies: Live by the Gun and Die by the Gun. The message board (can we call it a town meeting?) is tough to follow at times, and we have no idea where, when, or how this movie is actually going to be made. There is a glimmer of hope for the future of the Charlestown-based story line, cast, and crew. Not only has location scouting begun but a prequel to the movie is out. It's just over four minutes and a hodge-podge of lighting and video quality. There certainly is some potential for this to turn into something pretty interesting. We've got the YouTube broadcast embedded below – but you can download a wmv version of the prequel for yourself. The same footage with producer/writer Mike O'Dea's running commentary all DVD-extra style is also available. Remember this is only the version 1.0 release – it's made it past beta but we're still on the lookout for version 1.1, 2.0 or even 6 to come along down the road.

PS. The link you provided for 'location scouting begun' is pointing to the development of a short film we also have in development, not Townies.
