Natraj
"Hard-driving African grooves and graceful Indian ragas meet in Natraj's expansive jazz conception." The band grafts the classical music of Indian onto to the rhythms of West Africa, "in a way that falls somewhere between Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Vishnu." The Boston-based quartet (Phil Scarff, sax, Michael Rivard, bass, Jerry Leake, tabla, Bertram Lehmann, drums, percussion) is joined for this performance by bamboo flute master Steve Gorn (who's played with the likes of Jack DeJohnette, Tony Levin, Samir Chatterjee, and Paul Simon).

Boston Pops' Mozart's Greatest Hits
Keith Lockhart and his Pops offer a selection of music by Mozart, most of it from 1791, his sad, spectacular final year: arias from "The Magic Flute;" the finale of his last symphony, the deceptively simple "Jupiter;" and, of course, choice morsels of the Requiem.

Gov't Mule with Michael Franti & Spearhead
Bostonist was first blown away by Michael Franti's lefty, jazz-rap group Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy back in the early '90s. Since then, Franti's led the sublime hip hop 'n' funk troupe Spearhead (check 2003's Everyone Deserves Music; a new album drops in July). Franti & Co. open for the blues/southern rock/psychedelic power trio Gov't Mule.
