It's well known that Boston is not known for its fashion…unless fleece and Teva sandals topped off with a Red Sox hat rank high on your list of hot trends. But one man is defying the stereotype. Gary Croteau is Esquire magazine's Best Dressed Real Man in Boston. His stylish threads not only got him into Esquire, but also into the Globe last week, where he received even more accolades for his fine taste.
According to the Globe article, about twice a year Croteau cleans out his closets to make room for next year's trends (oh yes, this man stays a year ahead of current collections). No word on if the fashion purge coincides with Louis' semi-annual half-off sale (Croteau might get a staff discount). The excess couture goes to his friends, who earlier this year had urged him to enter the Esquire contest. At first, he was a little apprehensive. He told the Globe, "I thought that no one ever wins those things." But then he remembered seeing last year's winner on the Today Show and decided to give it a whirl (The Today Show inspires so many, doesn't it? Katie – our colon cancer will never go unchecked.).
He won simply by showing up in the men's department at Macy's in a slim-fitted pinstripe suit by Etro. Unfortunately, however, Croteau's efforts were not fancy enough to land him one of the five finalist spots to become Esquire's best dressed man in America. But Special congratulations extended to Croteau, who also manages and works as a stylist at Salon Mario Russo. So how about some highlights?

While this image won't show off Croteau's style it does show the finalists in the contest. White pants and white shoes - and an ascot - bold move Herbert. Bold move.

so to be the best-dressed man in America all you have to do is wear jeans or chinos and a jacket? and throw in a funky accessory, like a tie or a sweater?
