Google Map Apartment Mashup - Redux

mashupapts.jpgIt's that time of the year again. If you're not renewing your lease this month or next, you might be out on the prowl for a new rental unit. Last year about this time we ran a story about what we thought was a beautiful invention – a Google Map and Craigslist housing mash-up. It's still a beautiful invention but now you've got even more options. Ian Reardon pulled together a little more user friendly interface than what was released last year. The map plots points of all the apartments for rent, as listed on Craigslist, within your search parameters.

The interface on the new mapping site, at myapartmentmap.com, looks a little bit more user friendly. The thing that may be reason enough in itself to switch is the plotting of the MBTA "rapid transit" lines on the overall map. You can toggle the inclusion of the stations, soon to be included are area commuter rail location. The Grocery Store function doesn't seem to be up and operational – but living in a city without a car finding proximate food a walk able distance from your house is important. This mash-up has promise – expect to see some tweaks coming down the line.
