Wednesday Webcast Review: It's a Purl, Man
So, what's a purl anyway? Bostonist has to admit that we cheated and looked it up in the dictionary. Apparently, a purl is related to knitting, as in a purl stitch. Beyond that, we are clueless. However, if any of you didn't need a dictionary and, quite frankly, are like "Duh, I knew that!" then this week's webcast review might be right up your yarn-filled alley.
This week, Bostonist took a llisten to the It's a Purl Man webcast. It's a self described webcast about a guy in Boston with yarn issues. Like we stated earlier, we aren't really in-tune with the knitting scene, or even if there is a knitting scene. However, we don't think it's necessary to be interested in the topic to listen to a webcast and maybe recommend it to all you folks with your fancy iPods or other such capable portable media devices.
The crux of the webcast is that this is a late-20's guy who lives in Boston and is relatively new to knitting. The host, Guido, was introduced to knitting by his fiancé and has been completely obsessed ever since. His passion for all things knitting is abundantly clear when listening to the show. He shares his thoughts on knitting, his progress on current knitting projects, and news about knitting and knitting events. Apparently, being a guy in the knitting world can make for some interesting stories.
This webcast will certainly be very interesting to those who have an interest in knitting or are thinking about picking up a pair of knitting needles and some yarn. The webcast does, however, have some issues. The sound quality is mediocre at best. In the first episode Guido states he is recording from his bathroom and it sounded as such. The quality has improved a bit over the last few episodes, and if you happen to be passionate about knitting you will probably not be bothered by it at all. He does include interviews with other knitting folk. Sometimes the sound quality in the interview can suffer, but again, it is tolerable.
This webcast is about a Bostonian and his passion. As such, it includes lots of useful information for other Bostonians who share his passion. For this reason we give it high marks for its Boston-centric-itude (you won't find that word in the dictionary) and Bostonist totally digs that. So, if you are one to always have some yarn and needles at hand, queue it up in the iPod that is clothed in a custom-made wool cozy.
