Who says Boston doesn't have any celebrities? Since Norm and Cliff don't grace our Thursday night televisions and heralding Good Will Hunting has become passé a lot of people are talking about how we don’t have much celeb power here in the Hub. Forbes Magazine takes a break from rating the richest people in America and the world to take focus on the 100 hottest celebrities – based on both influence and on their annual earnings.
Bostonist doesn't claim to have an eagle-eye for all celebrities that have hailed from the Bay State, or even those that actually reside here, but we did notice a couple on the list. Jay Leno makes the appearance at 23, paid less than Letterman he still drives ratings for NBC latenight and got his start here in Boston. Tom Brady is next on the list coming in at 52. The Patriots quarterback is paid a ton on money in bonuses throughout the season, perhaps with a superbowl win this year he would have squeaked into the top 50 instead of just missing it. At number 81 on the list, Cape native Rachael Ray takes her culinary adventures to task on the Food Network. With $40 a day she can find some good eating, or she can proclaim the benefits of the salad-in-a-bag while creating a 30 minute meal.
To round out the Boston connection on the list, Forbes prints a two page homage to new pulp comedian Dane Cook. They tout the powers of myspace and other interweb connections that helped make the Arlington native "virtually famous" (their words). Cook didn't make the list of 100 power celebs, but it could be argued that his feature is a greater boon to his career and the limelight in which he's cast than an entry such as the one Seinfeld received would be: "8 years after show ended, Seinfeld still a syndication blockbuster."
There are plenty of non-Bostonians on the list, and probably some we missed. Check it out for yourself, and drop a comment if there're something you find of particular interest.
