Sports Tidbits

Props go out to Terry Francona (a man who really doesn't receive enough credit for the job he does in Boston) for his handling of the Coco Crisp situation. Crisp returned, and was immediately re-inserted into the starting lineup as the center-fielder, and lead-off hitter. But, it looks like 7th or 8 slot is most effective, with Youkilis at the top, and Francona has leveraged this.

The Sox also have some interesting options from a batting standpoint with Coco Crisp in the lineup. Crisp is a switch hitter, so he can lead-off against both lefties and righties, providing more flexibility for Tito. Coco's return has definitely bolstered the Sox lineup, and it's no coincidence the Sox are on a 9 game winning streak.

Petey's back! Boo him? Cheer him? You know what? Do whatever it is you feel like doing if you're lucky enough to be at the ballpark for this one. That's what makes this game and this country great. If Bostonist feels like booing, sound off like you've got a pair! If a standing ovation is in order, so be it.

Bostonist will be at the Pedro match up tomorrow (Sox are playing the New York Mets tonight through Thursday), and Bostonist has felt both emotions towards "Greedy Petey". Bostonist felt anger towards Pedro for leaving, but incredibly thankful for what he did here while he was in a Sox uniform. Pedro accomplished a lot in Boston, and Bostonist was fortunate enough to see him live many a time. When Pedro pitches it's an event. For Bostonians, nowadays those events don't occur every 5 days anymore. Tomorrow evening's tilt will be a spectacle, as it usually is, when a man named Martinez takes the hill at Fenway Park.

Danny Ainge has control of the 7th pick of the NBA draft for the beloved Boston Celtics. One word: Yikes. At this point, wouldn't it make sense to just ask Red who he likes, and go with it? Honestly, it couldn't be worse than Danny's professional botulism since taking over as GM.

Two more words for Danny Ainge: "Trade down." There's minimal value at 7, and something more can be made of this pick's value.

Thankfully, Tom Brady would wear a helmet if he was riding a motorcycle. If he was stupid enough to be a professional athlete in the prime of his career and actually OWNED a chopper of some sort. That’s a nice relief. Extra sleep for Bostonist because of this one.

Lastly, and not least, Bostonist.com has just been informed that the great city of Boston has a hockey team, known as the "Bruins". Word is though, they're still looking for a coach. There might be some information here if you think you have what it takes to lead the Boston Bruins!

Please keep another Boston sports great, Peter Gammons, in your thoughts and prayers. He is a great man, with a great family, who has contributed much to sports and Boston.
