Art + Bar + Boston=ArtBar Boston

small911Heather.jpgIf you’ve grown tired (like Bostonist) of the same old scene at the drinking establishments around town, there is a new twist to the night out and it will not only get you a little buzzed, but it will expand you culturally as well. ArtBar Boston is a local business that brings together artists and their work in the lovely setting of a bar; so while you mingle, drink, and chat, you can also shop for new art or at least discover some new artists in the area. Each event has its own theme, which is reflected in the artwork on display at the bar.

ArtBar Boston was started in 2005 by two local artists, Heather Somershein and Kurt Malec. After running similar events at Somerville’s Art Attack Gallery, the two have now joined forces and been planning ArtBar Boston events ever since.

Their latest event (which is completely free by the way) is being held at Vinalia tonight from 6-8p.m. with all the art working off the theme, "A Midsummer's Night Dream." What exactly does that mean? Well, they’re billing the evening as "ethereal, airy and waiflike." There will be free appetizers, a silent auction, and affordable masterpieces for sale. If you can’t make it to this event, they already have some get-togethers scheduled for the next few months, including one at the new District in the Ladder District and 28 Degrees in the South End.

The MFA’s Summer Fridays are not so hot, but perhaps these ArtBar Boston events are just what you're looking for, singletons?

Vinalia is located at 101 Arch Street in Downtown Crossing; make sure you RSVP for the event at rsvp@artbarboston.com.
