Being Bostonians, we know that there are two things that the people of this city become passionate about this time of year: politics and sports. Currently, there is a rather competitive race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination and, of course, the Sox are in the hunt for the A.L. East title. Surely, there must be a podcast out there that covers both. Well, the gods must be listening, as they have brought us Saint Kermit.
Now, true, Saint Kermit's political discussions are a bit tinted green and a bit leaning towards the left-side of the ideological spectrum. This does not mean that the discussions aren't fair, thoughtful, and well presented. The show's hosts all show that they are in touch with the issues, that they care about Massachusetts politics, and that they enjoy discussing politics with each other.
In addition to the political discussion, Saint Kermit also conducts interviews with some interesting people. These include politicians on the frontlines of many of the current hot-button issues. Often the interviewees are ordinary people who do extraordinary things, including teachers and champions for various causes.
Did we mention that this podcast talks about sports as well? It seems as though the folks of Saint Kermit not only are enthusiastic about politics, but these people love sports, too. This means that there is lots of discussion concerning the Sox, as they always dominate local sports coverage in Boston. However, they also discuss other sporting news, including, recently, the headbutt heard round the world during World Cup Soccer.
The webcast is a bit long. But, that is only because there is lots of content packed into each episode. They offer two different versions of each episode. One that is a plain MP3 file, and one that is an enhanced AAC file for those that have iPods. The enhanced shows will include chapters so you can skip to the content you are interested in hearing.
We would easily recommend this webcast. Just keep in mind that if you sit on a different side of the political ideological spectrum, you may find yourself disagreeing with the hosts' opinions a bit too often to enjoy the show.

I'm definitely a fan of St. Kermit - it's on topic, articulate, thoughtful, funny where appropriate - and I like the music too!
St. Kermit is interesting, wide-ranging, thoughtful, and provocative, an example of the types of robust discussions that should be taking place in a robust democracy. Thanks.
