Sometimes you want to use your portable audio player to actually listen to music. Yes, we know that sounds crazy, but there are actually podcasts that focus on music. In Boston, we have a good selection of music 'casts. This week, we take a look at CC Radio.
Chris Conly serves up his personally picked offerings of (mostly) pod-safe music. If you aren't familiar with the term, don't worry. All you need to know is that there is good music out there that isn't handcuffed to the giant music publishers/distributors. On a regular basis, Chris delivers heaping helpings of good music that you have most likely never heard before. And, much of it is from Boston (or from other parts of New England). Bostonist digs local music.
The show follows a pretty typical radio show format: plenty of music, mixed in with a little dialog. The music played runs the gamut of musical genres. From rock, to rap, to folk, to some stuff that can't be pigeon-holed. Occasionally, he even treats us to his own delights. Yup, not only is Mr. Conly a lover of good, independent music but, he is a musician himself. The dialog in the show can also be quite diverse. Sometimes we hear about upcoming shows, and other times we simply hear about what's new in his life.
The show seems to be on a little hiatus while Mr. Conly spends his summer at a music camp somewhere deep in the woods of Maine. This gives you a little time to catch up on old episodes before he comes back to beantown and starts dishing out new shows.
The bottom line is, if you enjoy listening to all sorts of music, like Bostonist does, then this type of show is right up your alley. Conversely, if your tastes are less diverse and you simply "know what you like", you may want to pass on this one. We would recommend you listen to some new music and expand your horizons, but we both know you only ever listen to Britney Spears. Come one, she is not even cute anymore.
