Airline Terror Plot Foiled in Britain

All local and national news outfits have their eyes turned to London this morning. A terrorism plot has been uncovered in the UK which would apparently have resulted in planes on international routes from the UK to the US blowing up mid-flight. At least twenty-one persons have been taken into custody by British authorities so far, and they're still following leads stemming from the arrests.

Here in the United States the Department of Homeland Security has raised the terror alert level to Red (or Severe, equal to Britian's Critical) on all inbound international flights from Europe. All domestic and international flights now carry a threat level of Orange. Fluids have been banned in carry on luggage – based on the nature of the plot they uncovered – so anything besides medicine and baby formula will not be allowed in cabins of planes. It doesn't mean you should cancel your travel plans – but make sure you get to the airport earlier than you may have planned. As things develop across the pond we'll give our attention to Londonist for more breaking news and developments in the story.

UPDATE: Our wife crack embedded journalist reported to us by phone that her 11:20 flight to Miami was delayed by only about 20 minutes (the plane was boarding when we spoke to her at 11:30), and that security lines and delays at Logan seemed only marginally longer than usual, despite predictions of massive back-ups. Of course, this is the domestic leg of her voyage, so things may get more dicey later today when she attempts to fly from Miami to Managua, Nicaragua. She has promised an update, which we will share with our dear readers.

Update by Josh Michtom, lest you get the very wrong impression that Jon Petitt is married.
