Bostonist isn't the sort to not listen to a podcast just because it is from Compu-Global-Hyper-Mega-Net or, in this case, the Boston Globe. Sure, we dig that podcasting has been a haven for vanguard content, but that doesn't mean the mainstream can't do podcasting right. This week, we take a look at the Boston Globe's Page One Podcast.
The Page One Podcast is exactly what you would want and, quite frankly, exactly what you would expect from a podcast produced by the area's largest newspaper. The podcast features, on each episode, a brief summary of the day's top stories. Of course, if you require more detailed coverage of the topics and stories, you will have to fork over some money to pick up the physical version of the The Globe or endure the advertisements that pervade the online version at Boston.com.
The episodes themselves are well done. They are short and can easily fit into the most brief of commutes. In addition, they provide you with enough ammunition to hold your own while standing at the watercooler, discussing current events with your colleagues. Sure, you won't be blowing anyone away with your outstanding knowledge on any particular topic, but you won't have that blank, deer-in-headlights stare either.
We think this podcast, like we said, serves up exactly what you would want and expect from it. There are better news 'casts out there, certainly, but not many can dish up an equivalent amount of local news in under ten minutes. We like this 'cast, but are wondering when the Herald will come out with its own version that isn't quite as good.
