Some Someday of Your Own

192720418_896ef1acb7_m.jpgThe August 12 closing of Someday Cafe left employees, regulars, and regular citizens disenheartened. Plans are in the works to reopen under new management, in a new location, possibly even with the same name. But even if the renaissance comes to pass, old-time Someday customers may feel that something is missing... that certain intangible quality that comes from familiar surroundings: a bookshelf, a refrigerator, a coffee bin.

If you are of this mindset, today may be your lucky day. According to an ad on Craigslist, the late Someday Cafe is joining the ranks of migrant students in the pre-September furniture purge. So if you're in Somerville picking up lightly used art objects, beeswax-coated bedframes or office cubicles, you can take home a piece of the legendary Cafe that launched a thousand ships. Or at least a few hearty protests.

This is great news. It's always terrible when a gathering place is destroyed. Our culture has too few informal places to gather.

Hey, please note that the worker-owned-Proto-New-Someday has a temporary, part-time new home at Razzy's on Somerville Ave.

to be quite honest I have a problem with Razzy's since they renamed it from it's former incarnation "Jon's Place" I always dreamed of getting the apartment directly above that spot.
