The threats of massive traffic slow downs hit us over the long weekend. City officials and the main stream media were warning of resulting problems as some hundreds of thousands of students returned to school and workers returned to a full schedule after the summer. Despite the Big Dig issues stemming from safety checks and repairs after the July incident, traffic wasn't all that bad. Reports from the field indicate a relatively normal commute (though the requisite bitching about the Green Line was thrown in).
The traffic issue of the day was when a rollover was reported. A Fung Wah bus returning to Boston from New York rolled over on an exit ramp in Auburn on Interstate 290. Dozens of minor injuries were reported as passengers were rushed to the hospital – the driver remained unharmed. The final reports haven't come through yet, but State Police are saying that speed was a factor in the accident. We're not all that surprised. The Fung Wah will often get you to NYC a bit quicker than the Greyhound. Fires, turnovers, and the interesting cargo you may encounter on a ride still don't deter us from the journey. With the number of journeys these busses make back and fourth from Boston to New York chances are pretty good the ride will be uneventful transportation.
