When the cast and crew of the latest Scorsese flick, "The Departed" descended on Boston last year, Bostonist was excited to see some real movie stars film in the real streets of Boston (and not Toronto, Vancouver, or any other more affordable Canadian city). Unfortunately, they were only here about a month before heading down to New York City to use it as the backdrop for what is supposed to be an entire story set in Southie. We had to be happy with our fleeting glimpses of Leo, Matt, and Jack in the Herald's Inside Track every day since we knew that was all we were going to get.
There was talk a few months ago of holding "The Departed" premiere here in Boston in early October. It made perfect sense since the film is all about Boston, right? Well, that idea got nixed too and they're now holding the premiere in New York City. Does Marty Scorsese have no love for the Hub?
The television has recently been spitting out the trailer for the movie, which opens October 6, and after watching it a few hundred times last night, we realized there was something vaguely familiar about the last shot in the trailer. "The Departed" logo (above) features our cityscape along the top, which reminds us of our very own logo here at Bostonist. While we like to think ours is better (especially with Old Ironsides getting a shout-out), theirs does seem to feature the Pru, 111 Huntington Ave., and the Hancock Tower.
Could it be that our logo's creator, Sam Park, is working for Scorsese on the side?
