Not impressed. First, the prices are very high for what you get. The sandwichs are at least two dollars more than those at Cafe Kiraz a couple of blocks away. Another example, single Oreo cookies for fifty cents. Interesting business model.

Second, I had a bowl of chili there. The word "bowl" would appear to mean a tiny cup put in a shallow wide bowl with a higher price. And the chili was not something I could recommend.

Third, I do not think the quality is all that great. I would much rather go to the Independent in Union Square (about 5 blocks away) or Cafe Kiraz (about three blocks away) for much better food. Kiraz has fabulous sandwiches. I live a block from Allstar, but I will walk over to Kiraz for the better food.

When I went, the staff was clearly in the weeds. They were behind and some items were not available. They were unable to take a credit card but did not bother to post that.

In summary, it is the new place on the block but I will not return.

Slathered mayonnaise on thin sliced bread, turkey, stuffing,
and relish.

If you order the Gobbler sandwich at the All Star Sandwich Bar
you might not want mayonnaise slathered on the thin sliced brioche
bread in the sandwich as they do with the delicious turkey,
stuffing and relish. You might want the brioche bread sliced
thinker.

I live around the corner from the joint, and was skeptical cause it was replacing the best chinese in the area (apparently cafe china's owners decided to just retire and shut down - what a loss!). I went in the day or day after it opened. . . . and they were a mess! I didnt even get to try the food, it seemed clear they werent ready for the opening rush and i wasnt the only one pissed off to be waiting as long as i did. I ended up walking out, deciding to phone an order in instead. Tragically, when I showed up to pick it up they had LOST MY ORDER. . . . ..

I went down the street to Bukowski's, had a beer and a burger, and talked over the problem with their bartender. He convinced me to give them a try after things had settled down, which I did, and I'm glad I was patient. Sandwiches are great, staff is friendly, and in the end they are a great addition to the neighborhood. If they turned you off in those opening weeks, give them another try, its absolutely worth it.

We also felt the Atomic meatloaf sandwich was practically inedible. Maybe, knowing Schlesinger's penchant for heat, we should have expected it. We had a really interesting first trip, including watching our order get served to someone else. I may go back though...

I tried this place last night after hearing lots of pre-review buzz on the joint. Definatley a quality shop! Busy as hell, service was slow but friendly. I had the texas rueban -awesome brisket, slaw, cheese, dressing on rye. Tasty tasty tasty. My friend had the beef in weck or something. Huge pile of melt in your mouth roast beef. Pile of fries was huge. Good stuff looking forward to going back.

the globe reviewed a preview of the spot - totally skeptical about their review. But a take-out adventure to the spot for a Gobbler and a BLT was delish. And, sorry 1369, the lemonade is the best in Inman Square. Too bad sunshiney days with temperatures comfortable enough to enjoy your sandwich on a near by bench - or the park down the street are almost behind us.
