Bread or Dough: Kids Cook Up Farmers' Market Heist

eating_bread_2006.jpgAt about 6 pm tonight, the Hi-Rise Bakery was finishing up its stand at the Central Square farmers' market when some punks walked by and stole way more than a loaf of bread.

When the young woman attending the bread stand stepped away, apparently for a second, these kids made their move and swiped a box full of cash. How full? So full that the woman attending the booth started sobbing on the spot. Bostonist overheard her telling another farmers' market employee that the box had 700 smackers inside.

These kids must've staked out the farmers' market. Not to encourage anyone, but farmers' markets are a great place for a heist. Everyone gets absorbed with inspecting the squash, zucchini, and tomatoes, and they forget what's happening around them. Plus, let's face it, those who attend and staff farmers' markets tend to be a little on the day-dreamy side. Unfortunately, by the time a woman at the stand across the way caught the silvery glint of a cash box floating across the parking lot, the juvenile delinquents were already long gone, running down Norfolk Street away from Mass Ave. One ambitious man leapt a fence trying to get at them, but they were too fast.

Perhaps the woman shouldn't have left the cash unattended – maybe there were just no orphans to burgle. Cambridge APB will certainly be issued for a trio of kids flashing a suspiciously large wad of cash that smells faintly of vanilla bean bread.
