Edgers Goes Singular

Some time ago some smart-aleck in LA created a little app that stripped LAist of their first person plural pronouns and stuck the "I" and "me" into their writing. It quickly grew, offering a singular view of all the "ist" sites at the time. We like the parody but refuse to succumb to singularizing our posts. We are, after all, a collaboration of several minds in Boston posting little snippets of life and items of interest that aren't exclusively ours. Besides, sometimes Bostonist likes to spice it up and throw in a little third person voice.

Geoff Edgers, who writes for the Globe and blogs for boston.com as The Exhibitionist, is embarking on the first person singular. After starting up as a web presence for arts on boston.com in the late spring "I" and "me" haven't graced the logs posted, until now. This weekend Edgers posted a little note on how he was abandoning the first person plural for the first person singular. While it may seem like a small change to some it might be an important step for blogging on boston.com. Trapped in the MSM mold of journalism for most of their blogs, Edgers has been able to break free in some ways. He continues to write for the Globe but perhaps we'll be able to gain a greater insight into the arts critic through the blog when he's talking for himself. Now, if we could only comment on The Exhibitionist...
