Given that VH1 is kicking off a new season of "Celebreality," featuring ex-child star Danny Bonaduce running amok all over LA, we at Bostonist would like to check up on our own city's most famous boybanders to see if they have matured into responsible citizens.
Alas, Donnie Wahlberg, one of the few boybanders to mature somewhat gracefully, just took a knock this week. The former member of New Kids on the Block has transformed himself into a reliable character actor, but the CW network just pulled the plug on his brand-new drama, Runaway.
Bostonist isn't an NKOTB apologist, especially since D. Wahlberg was in the exploitative The Path to 9/11, but we're pleased that Wahlberg has managed to extricate himself from the "Celebreality" trap, unlike Bobby Brown, who is the poster child for Boston boybanders gone horribly wrong.
Last Wednesday, Brown finally agreed to pay back $11,000 in child support to his Massachusetts ex. He didn't cough up until after a judge said he would be arrested if he set foot in Massachusetts. Brown has plenty of problems, as Whitney Houston is leaving his butt and no one remembers that he was a singer, anyway. Now, he's mostly remembered for explaining how he helped his wife overcome her constipation on national television.
It was a bad week for Boston boybanders in general, but at least Wahlberg has emerged with some dignity intact. As for Brown, now that he's set back by $11,000, we can cross our fingers that he'll be back on television in all his Z-list glory.
