Even though yesterday was November 1, Halloween lasted an extra day on Newbury Street as teens and college kids gathered dressed as rap-icon-turned-reality-tv-star Flavor Flav.
Flav, who is known for wearing Viking horns, outlandish shades, and a clock around his neck, was scheduled to visit Newbury Comics to sign autographs and promote his new solo record, Hollywood. These days, more people know Flav for his hot-tub shenanigans on VH1's Flavor of Love than for his music, but a line of people stretched from the entrance of Newbury Comics all the way down the block.
Members of the Boston police force showed up, although it was unclear if they were worried about a riot or if they wanted autographs, too. Newbury Comics employees seemed surprised by the crowd as they herded everyone into a single line as they eagerly awaited Flav's arrival.
Many people in line sported Viking horns or clocks, but some die-hard Flav fans, such as Chris Nazzaro, pictured left, went all out with Flav attire. He also bought the record and the wristband required for the autograph at 10 am, and he and his friends had been waiting for two hours before Flav showed up. Another fan, Ashley Armington, of Philadelphia, pictured below, offered a more regal take on the Flav costume. Those who weren't dressed up just stood around spouting famous Flav lines, such as "YEAAAAH BOYEEEE!" and "FLAVOR FLAAAAV!"
Anticipation built as a limo pulled up, and Flav stepped out. He had the crown and the sunglasses, but he topped himself by wearing a bright blue jacket with the logo for Viagra emblazoned across the back. (An appropriate choice given that Flav is due to have yet another baby with a non-Flavor of Love girl - hope he sold a bunch of records because that's his seventh child!)
The camera phones flew up in the air as people tried to get a picture, and Flav quickly rushed in to give the people what they wanted. People soon emerged from Newbury Comics, clutching their signed clocks. A few hours later, Flav was still there, hugging his new fans and proving that you can turn every day into Halloween if you try hard enough.
