Patriots Hold the Ball, This Week

What a game last weekend, the Pats and Bears. Excitement, defense, hard hitting, and even some of the usual drama added by the NFL Zebras (are they serious with those Pass Interference calls? Were they watching the same game? Bostonist is in agreement with Troy Aikman; its time to make Pass Interference a reviewable offense). But, last night's game was proof that Defensive games can be fun. Here's hoping the boys over at Elias Sports Bureau hook a brutha up and rule Tom Brady's first interception pass (that was caught and dropped by Ben Watson) what it really was, which is a fumble, not an INT. That mistake is on Big Ben. Oh, and there MAY be some fantasy football implications...

In the Chicago game a week ago, there were 9 turnovers in the game. NINE. That's a lot. A ton. A Pile. But these, Grossman's fumbled snap aside, to coin a phrase, "exciting turnovers". You're not a football fan if you didn't think that the Ben Watson INT that should have been a fumble wasn't awesome to watch at full speed. Just a WICKED hit by the Chicago backfield.

This week, the Pats kept their fans entertained yet again, with a 28-21 win over the lowly Detroit Lions. This one was a ball game the whole way, especially late in the third quarter when a field goal gave the visiting Lions a 21-13 lead. The Patriots even gave up a safety in this game in the third quarter when Tom Brady was hit and fumbled backwards, and Heath Evans recovered the fumble in the end zone, resulting in 2 points.

But, the Pats came storming back in the fourth quarter, when Corey Dillon scored his second and third touchdowns of the game to secure a 28-21 Pats W. Brady was sharp, completing 27 of 38 passes at a 71% clip, with 1 interception. This game had 8 turnovers, 5 coming by the Lions, 3 by the Pats including 2 fumbles. Pats fans, you're kidding yourselves if you think that New England can win the big one playing the way they have been playing. Controlling the football and minimizing penalties is a Belichick mantra, and the boys best start acting like that if they plan on playing deep into January and February.
