Art, Bloggers Invade Bar

jennysbarpic.jpgThere's something about an opening, or an open studio, or even a closing party that makes a statement about an art exhibition. There's usually booze at the start and the end of the run. We'll be honest, it makes the art a little more fun, a little more grown up, and give us enough drinks and we'll start to get more liberal with our acquisition budget. Ok, we don't have an acquisition budget, but wouldn't it be cool if we did…we'll put the dreaming on hold and just head out to see some art tonight. ArtBar is holding RED over at the Foundation Lounge tonight from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Artists we've READ have hung their works over at The Other Side and will be on hand with their works starting at 9 pm.

The ArtBar event takes place earlier and we're sure is likely to be a bit more formal. They've focused on the color red as the theme. ArtBar founders Heather Somershein and Kurt Malec's abstracts in red will be on display. All works are under $100 at the event and they'll be donating 10% of the proceeds to charities fighting AIDS in Africa. AIDS support and Red are go hand in hand. Over at the Other Side Café some local bloggers are making good on their aspirations to become real life artists, and it won't be liveblogged. Jenny Frazier from alleyesonjenny.com, Matt Hooker of Matt Hooker's Blog, and Gary Hedrick from Hull (sure, it's a town not a blog – wanna fight?) have hung their works and will enjoy the toil with a few drinks with adoring fans and internet stalkers alike. But the show is really a focus on the artist, not the blogger behind the artist. Make sure you stop over to Hooker Media, Studio at alleyesonjenny, and Elefhantworks to get a taste of what's in store and join the artists with their work for the evening starting around 9pm. The weather has turned cold, but with a few drinks in you it will be a warm walk from one to the other. The Other Side show, unlike the one night stint of ArtBar, will be up for a while. Stop in anytime and make the artists an offer they can't refuse.
