www.keepmanny.com. That says it all. Trading him is ludicrous. There is no one to replace him, and it essentially marginalizes David Ortiz. These right-handed world class hitters don't grow on trees, and J.D. "Injury" Drew isn't exactly Manny Ramirez. Actually, according to Elias Sports Bureau, he is a lot like Trot Nixon, numbers wise... hmmm.. doesn't Trot at 5, 6 mil make a lot more sense (platooning with Wily Mo) then 15 Mil per for the same numbers in J. D. Drew? Oh, and forget about 50 Home Runs for David Ortiz. Maybe 30. And, he will break Barry Bonds' number for walks with over 200. Mark Bostonist's words. Don't trade Manny, plain and simple. No matter what Curt Schilling says.
Is anyone else sick of the past 3 years of turning over 2,3,4 position players per year? That has to stop, there needs to be some continuity in the Sox lineup which will also add a bit of comradery in the clubhouse. This regime of Epstein, Lucchino, and company had disregarded this since 2004, and shows it by not offering arbitration to Trot Nixon.
Sox are offering 8 million over 4 years and Super Agent Scott Boras is talking more in the range of 15 million. Hmmm... with 10 days to go and a 20 million dollar plus gap seems the Matsuzaka move a block job on the Yankees?
JD Drew, in a word, yuck. Julio Lugo, in another word, bunk. There's no one better than these two putzes that we can put on the field?
Nixon - for the sake of the fans and the clubhouse, Trot Nixon should be brought back. Its the right thing to do, not only for the fans, but it makes fiscal and baseball sense. And, let's not forget, Trot Nixon is the best defensive Right Fielder since Dwight Evans.
Bostonist is losing patience and faith in this Red Sox management team. It's starting to become clearer that the 2004 Red Sox squad had more of a Dan Duquette stamp on it than the current regime, and is it possible that it (gulp!) may have been a bit better approach to building a successful Major League Baseball organization that what is currently occurring on Yawkey Way? Bostonist will be watching.

Democratic Primary Debate at WGBH: Transcript Time!

Not only is Manny an astonishingly good power hitter, but he's part of the most formidable 1-2 punch in baseball. There haven't been many combinations like this one. So what if Manny's a tool. I would keep him under any circumstances.
I actually think Drew is a very good signing. I beg to differ with you about his equivalence as a hitter with Trot Nixon. While injury prone, Drew has shown power in pitcher's parks like Chavez Ravine, and even in a Dodgers lineup that could have appeared in "The Night of the Living Dead." By contrast, Nixon's solid hitting numbers are largely due to the fact that he's in a hitter's park, and more importantly to the fact that he was another cog in the excellent hitting machine that was the Sox. Anyone would have decent numbers playing in that park and that lineup...even, uh, a Bill Mueller type who never posted anything like those stats anywhere else. The Sox could sign Manny Mendoza and still have him hit .250.
