NY Times Loves the ICA, The Globe Smells Farts

divinefartlobby_2006.jpgThe New York Times printed a glowing review of the new ICA building on the waterfront today. Fun quotes from the article like "its ability to interweave art and civic life makes it the most important building to rise here in a generation." show that the New York press are as impressed with the new building as the Boston media seems to be. There is early mention of the piece of the John Hancock tower and City Hall as predecessors to the ICA – both plagued by plywood and incredible ugliness of concrete, respectively. It was just yesterday that the brainiacs at the Boston Globe took a long hard look at the Divine Fart that welcomes visitors to the new art museum in the lobby.

Bostonist is a big fan of fart jokes, sexual innuendos, and all things generally labeled juvenile. The incredibly large format work of art is titled "Gas" though there are rumors that it once held the moniker "The Divine Fart." Either title the image certainly depicts a woman passing wind. The work by Chiho Aoshima will be seen by the public when the museum officially opens on Sunday and by all accounts doesn't actually bring a stink to the lobby as one might think. We'll take the good press the Times will give us, we often play second fiddle to the City that Never Sleeps. Truth be told we couldn't find anyone who actually thinks that dinner is at 5pm.

Make sure you check out the 360-degree view posted on Boston.com of the lobby of the new ICA. What you'll find: a full on view of the fart.

It's a good thing the "Divine Fart" wasn't part of the "Sensorium" exhibit at MIT. I couldn't possibly imagine the smell.

Divine Fart? That's awesome!
