A major fire at One Broadway resulted in injuries, one of them critical. Universal Hub moved fast and posted a report from a woman who works in the building and saw the impact of the smoke inhalation firsthand. They also have a report from someone who was on the Kendall T stop platform and saw lights "flicker and flash and eventually [go] out."

CBS4 has video of people describing the smoke, and they also report that the Red Line shut down but is now open. The MBTA had an update on their site, stating "Red Line service is experiencing minor delays due to Fire Department activity in the Kendall Square area."

As of 12:55, CBS reported, "Traffic on the Longfellow Bridge going into Cambridge has been shut down. Ames Street and Wadsworth Streets have also been closed." In general, if you're headed home tonight and you have to pass through Kendall Square or near One Broadway, check the news before you go.

Watch for updates, and check on any of your pals working in that area. The cause of the fire hasn't been determined, but the Globe mentions an electrical fire in the basement of the building.

UPDATE: The individual who sustained the critical injury in the fire has died, according to the Globe. Thirty-one people were hospitalized.

Here's the current official word on the cause: "Cambridge Fire Chief Gerald Reardon said two NStar workers in the sub-basement were using a generator that exploded and sparked an electrical fire."
