MBTA Bringing Sexy Back?

southern-van.jpgWith police officers accused of pilfering Oxycontin from the BPD drug warehouse and the MBTA not taking credit but still charging riders' credit cards, December hasn't been a good month for city services. And it's not going to get any better now that six MBTA supervisors have been fired for extracurricular activities during the job - including having a love affair while on the clock.

Now, sex isn't exactly the first thought to come to mind when one thinks of an MBTA employee, so the very idea of an on-the-job affair seems ludicrous. But the Herald reports that private detectives hired by the MBTA busted a pair of employees in "official cars and area hotels." The Herald doesn't imply that any hanky-panky took place in an MBTA car (if this MBTA car is a-rockin ... oh, nevermind), but the reference to "area hotels" leaves little to the imagination.

The most recent MBTA scandal isn't just about sex. The other fired supervisors were running businesses on the side or showing up late, which is just great since Boston's mass transit is undergoing tremendous change and could probably use a few helping hands right about now. BadTransit is irate and blames everyone involved, from the lazy supervisors to the top brass: "Yes, the work ethic, or any ethic at all, has long ago dissolved to this point. It takes top management to lower the boom and deliver guidance to employees such as 'Show up for work,' and 'do your jobs.'" You'd think the MBTA would have higher standards - and you'd think that people having an affair at work would be a little more discreet about it. This Bostonist for one will never look at an official MBTA car the same way again.

Perhaps the freshly fired MBTA employees might find this van, snapped by Flickr user Pierre Lascott, a tad more comfy than an official car.
