Cambridgeside Best Buy Under Water

This little gem came in on the tip line over lunch

So what's filled with over 10,000 gallons of water and in Boston metro area?
If you guessed "AQUARIUM." You're right.
If you guessed "Best Buy at Cambridgeide." You're also right!
As it turns out 10,000 gallons is a lot less than we thought, an Olympic Swimming Pool holds quite a bit more. 10,000 gallons (an imprecise calculation – probably more likely on the scale of hundreds of gallons) is a whole lot of water to be mingling with plasma televisions, iPods, and all those Nintendo Wii they're still holding out on.best_buy_logo.gif Shoppers in the mad dash to complete their holiday shopping in the final days before Christmas now have one less location to patronize this year. A water main break this morning flooded the mechanical room and the first floor of the store, water also made its way into the underground garage of the Cambridgeside Galleria. The Borders and Macy's Homestore were closed for a while earlier today as crews repaired the break. The water main feeding the sprinkler system in the store has been repaired but the Best Buy remains closed. The initial reports had the store reopening within a week – but information we got puts the estimate at closer to three or four weeks. They'll miss out on the final days of the Christmas shopping season, this coupled with poor corporate earnings reports sure to splash the business pages tomorrow. Some Cambridgeside store employees will be relocated to other locations while the cleaning and repairs are completed. Oh, the irony of working in Watertown because the Cambridge store is flooded.
