A year and a half ago we first heard about Clocky. It's an alarm clock that would run from you as soon as you hit the snooze. The brilliant idea came from the MIT Media Lab as a project of one of their students. A prototype made the way around the internet in pictures. The shag carpeted festooned version of the clock was a theoretical hit – commercial production was only a promise and a dream. Today the dream comes true as Clocky hit the market just in time for rush orders to fulfill your every Christmas desire (there's even a chance you'll get it in time for the eighth day of Hanukkah).
Clocky is in commercial production and will be shipping in the next couple of days. The commercial production of Clocky (Clocky 1.0?) allows you to tap the snooze once before it makes the getaway from the nightstand. The first versions are available in white, mint, and aqua (only white is available for immediate delivery) though a variety of skins, including the shag we all came to know and love, are promised for future sale. The shag-less version looks sleek and smooth, much less of a basement tinkering and more of an IKEA mainstream product. Watch out though, Clocky's specs call for a max 2 foot jump from the nightstand to the floor. While 2 feet is not outrageous for a bed-side table, Bostonist is sleeping next to a 2.5 foot table, perhaps we'll field test the little guy and let you know how he survives. Gauri Nanda, Clocky's creator, is only selling the new version online until 2007, when she promises retail locations. Visit the online store and you can also put a pre-order in for one of Nanda's laptop cozies or lapsac's (a big ol' purse with a pouch for a laptop).
