Invite Them Up

2005_05_arts_itu2.jpgEugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale have been running a well received comedy show in New York for a bit called Invite Them Up. It's a venue for comedians to test a bit of new material on stage. The "super deluxe holiday show" (language from their website) will be making the on the road appearance at the Paradise Rock Club tonight at 8 pm. Along with Mirman and Tisdale, Jon Benjamin, AD Miles, and David Cross will share the bill.

Eugene Mirman once called Boston, or more precisely Cambridge, home and delivered the funny around the Hub. We miss him. We chatted with him after his show at the Middle East in April and he told us that Boston is one of the hardest venues for him because, unlike many other cities, Boston often knows his comedy well so he has to make sure he's got a bunch of new material up his sleeve. That and the added pressure of acquaintances and friends staring back at him from the audience.

Invite Them Up has been well received in New York and we're happy to see them play a $15 show up here for a change. Second to the Mirman and Tisdale headline, Bostonist is probably most excited about catching a glimpse of David Cross at the microphone. His voice and humor carried Freak Show on Comedy Central recently for their inaugural season and we remember him fondly as Tobias in Arrested Development but he certainly couldn't do wrong by bringing Mr. Show back. Tonight's show starts at 8pm at the Paradise.
