It made sense when the postal service stopped regular mail delivery after Reagan died because some people got awfully nutty over Ronnie. But recently deceased former president Gerald Ford? Everyone said he was a nice guy, except maybe for that pardon of Nixon, but suspending mail service?

Anyway, if you're planning on returning any ill-suited Christmas presents, get it done Saturday, or wait until Wednesday, January 3, because the death of Gerald Ford will give you a three-day mail hiatus with Sunday, New Year's Day, and Gerald Ford Has Gone to the Oval Office in the Sky Day.

US stock markets will be closed as well, which seems like an un-Republican thing to do, so don't plan on any New Year stock trading.
