It would be nice if the blotter for the first day of 2007 focused on the typical New Year's Eve drunk and disorderlies. Unfortunately, six people were shot in four separate locations around 5 this morning in Dorchester.
A 14-year-old died in the shootings. That makes yet another preteen who has been cut down in a matter of weeks. The Boston Police Department believes that two of the episodes unfolded at "private house parties" that turned ugly.
Even though someone died, potential witnesses aren't talking, as noted several times in the BPD report. Fox's report made a brief reference to a man and a woman who were spotted leaving the scene with guns.
The BPD has made a New Year's Resolution regarding the persistent violence, and, in the words of Commissioner Ed Davis, "Residents, particularly in the Dorchester community, will see an increase in police presence." Commissioner Davis also found it "astonishing" that witnesses aren't cooperating and hopes they'll offer information anonymously via CrimeStoppers 1-800-494-TIPS.
