Last night was the last call at The Rack. The Hard Rock Café is moving from their Back Bay location where they've been neatly tucked away from most of the foot traffic only blocks away to The Rack's location near Faneuil Hall. What Bostonist will miss most about The Rack isn't the overpriced drinks or pool tables – it's the column inch upon column inch of content they've provided for The Inside Track over the last decade. Stories about Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Pats players have all been fodder for the Track Ladies. The club has also been a popular site for celebrity spotting while they're in Boston for appearances and movie shoots. The Herald ran a full rundown of Inside Track memories of the Rack on Friday. It's amazing the notoriety that clubs and bars get when there's an off chance that you may sight a sports celeb in your midst – especially when they might possibly doing something embarrassing that you'll be able to read about later in the Herald.
The Rack's owner, Paul Barclay will be auctioning off the pool tables and other Rack memorabilia on site on January 9 – but says this may be the last of the Rack but it won't be the last of him. He told the Herald that he'll be back in the Boston nightlife scene in some form this summer. No word on exactly when the Hard Rock Café will be able to get all their Rock kitsch and renovations in place to open their new doors.
Photo from The Rack's website – and to be fair, hats (white hats or any kind) constituted a violation of dress code at the club.
